¡Finalmente!
Entre el trabajo y otras cosas, no había tenido el tiempo de terminar de leer la memoria de Michelle Obama, pero gracias a los viajes diarios en metro, he subido al tren de BECOMING y me ha encantado. Estaba muy emocionado de tener este libro en mis manos. Había planeado comprarlo desde el año pasado y no fue hasta este año que mi querida amiga Alicia me lo dio de cumpleaños.
A través de este libro, Michelle nos ha abierto las puertas a una pequeña parte de su vida; desde su infancia hasta hace algunos años cuando terminó la administración de su esposo como presidente de los Estados Unidos. Es como tener una conversación a solas con la autora que te traslada a esos momentos íntimos, y que de alguna manera te hace sentir presente cuando ocurrió todo.
Más que escribir una reseña del libro, decidí hacer algo distinto y compartir con ustedes mis extractos favoritos, esas frases que por simple que sean, tienen un mensaje que han quedado en mi mente para siempre. Espero que lo disfruten.
“Todavía hay mucho de lo que no sé se Estados Unidos, sobre la vida, sobre lo que el futuro pueda traer. Pero me conozco a mí misma. Mi padre, Frase, me enseño a trabajar duro, reír a menudo, y mantener mi palabra. Mi madre, Marian me enseñó a pensar por mí misma y usar mi voz. Juntos, en nuestro apartamento estrecho en el sur de Chicago, ellos me ayudaron a ver el valor de nuestra historia, en mi historia, en la gran historia de nuestro país. Incluso cuando no es bonita y perfecta. Incluso cuando es más real de lo que quisieras que sea. Tu historia es lo que tienes, lo que siempre tendrás. Es algo para poseer”.

WHAT I LIKED FROM BECOMING, MICHELLE OBAMA’S BOOK
Finally!
Between work and some other things, I hadn’t been able to finish reading Michelle Obama’s book, but thanks to my commuting time in the Metro, I got on the “BECOMING” train, and I have loved it. I was very excited to have this book in my hands, I have wanted to buy it since 2018, but my dear friend, Alice, surprised me with it as a present for my birthday. Thank you, Alice!
In this book, Michelle opens the doors of a little part of her life to the world; from her childhood to the latest years of her husband’s administration as president of the United States. Reading this book feels like having an intimate conversation with her, as if you were transferred to those special moments. At times, I felt as if I were there; present in the exact moment when things happened.
Rather than writing a book review, I wanted to do something different and share with you my favorite parts of the text; those phrases that might seem simple but have a message that has stayed in my mind. I hope you like them.
There is a lot I still don’t know about America, about life, about what the future might bring. But I do know myself. My father, Frase, taught me to work hard, laugh often, and keep my word. My mother, Marian showed me how to think for myself and to use my voice. Together, in our cramped apartment on the South Side of Chicago, they helped me see the value in our story, in my story, in the larger story of our country. Even when it’s not pretty or perfect. Even when it’s more real than you want it to be. Your story is what you have, what you will always have. It is something to own.
“You don’t have to like your teacher”, She told me on day after I came home spewing complaints. “But that woman’s got the kind of math in her head that you need in your. Focus on that and ignore the rest”.
He was making a bid for our investment. The choice, as he saw it, was this: You give up or work for change. “What’s better for us?” Barack called to the people gathered in the room. “Do we settle for the world as it is, or do we work for the world as it should be?”
When I asked how we’d afford living expenses if we were going to have homes in both D.C. and Chicago, he’d said, “well, I’ll write another book and it’ll be a big, one that makes money
